Technical Service Manager, Asia, Coating
Our client is an innovation driven, middle size, private U.S. Company.  With expertise across a breadth of disciplines including specialty chemical, floor covering, and performance materials, they work around the world every day to add true value to people’s lives, improve health and safety, and make this world more sustainable.  
Support the development and growth of additives business in line with the business’ commercial strategy. Responsibilities includes managing and supporting the Technical Service team in Shanghai, developing new business opportunities, providing effective technical service to existing accounts and managing lab projects to support growth at customers.
The purpose of this role is to ensure adequate resources, capabilities, including necessary level of specialized knowledge and expertise of the coatings industry in Asia in general and China in particular, and process alignment to meet global standards.
Report to: Global Technical Service Manager in Westlake, Ohio

Location: Shanghai, China
Key Accountabilities:
  • Engage, develop, and lead the technical service team in Shanghai
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the segment strategy plan and take a lead in defining, and owning, the specific implications for the region
  • Develop and maintain a high level of customer intimacy by cultivating strong relationship with the technical teams at strategic and key accounts
  • Ensure that Work Request pipeline and resources allocated towards them is managed effectively
  • Ensure that the technical service team inputs fully and effectively work request processes, with well defines scopes and understanding of their business cases
  • Work closely with the sales team and distribution partners to align on the commercial and technical support strategy geared towards achievement of business growth goals
  • Contribute to the overall regional management team decision making process
  • Communicate effectively with the global technical team and share learnings, experiences, and challenges
  • Prepare reports on work completed (lab projects) and external customer visits
  • Candidate must be hands on working on projects in the lab. The importance of this point should be noted by the candidate and taken into consideration as a significant part of the job. This hands-on approach is critical to gain learnings of the product line and the formulating aspects and full understanding of the value propositions they provide.

  • Position requires up to 50% travel to customer sites with salespeople, distributors or alone
Other responsibilities:
  • Initiate and drive projects related to the current customer base and target accounts
  • Provide support for technical questions/issues from internal and external customers
  • Lead the technical efforts to support customer needs
  • Custom formulation required to solve technical problems
  • Author and present technical papers
  • All other duties assigned by your supervisor
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, or related degree
  • Fluent English required
  • Paints & Coatings industry, any B2B industry environment, min 10 years of work experience in technical services and support.
  • Skills – Leadership, managerial skills, stakeholder management, decision making, creating value propositions, communication and presentation, commercial and business acumen, basic understanding of financial concepts related to sales and cost to serve.
