Title: Senior Trader – China

Reporting to: Regional Lead, Asia Pacific

Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Petrochemical Trader based in China, you will be responsible for managing and growing the petrochemical trading portfolio.
  • Key Account Management**: Build and maintain strong relationships with key petrochemical customers and stakeholders in China.
  • Trading and Delivery Execution**: Oversee the management of the petrochemical trading book and delivery plans, handling both physical and paper trading operations.
  • Cross-Regional Collaboration**: Collaborate effectively with trading teams across Singapore, Europe, and the U.S., supporting the broader strategy for petrochemicals and related products.
  • Strategic Commercial Support**: Work closely with in-country and global originators to execute the commercial strategy for petrochemicals within the organization.
  • Profit and Loss (PnL) Management**: Take ownership of the trading book’s PnL targets, ensuring successful delivery and contributing to overall profitability.
  • Business Development and Growth**: Set and implement strategic objectives for long-term business growth in China, identifying new opportunities and areas for expansion.
  • Leadership and Mentorship**: Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor or above degree in business, commerce, or engineering.
  • A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in petrochemical trading, with expertise in both physical trading and derivatives.
  • Strong experience in originating new physical business and establishing key customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior leader in a trading environment, with the ability to lead, manage, and develop teams.
  • Deep knowledge of the petrochemical market, including feedstocks, aromatics, and olefins.
  • Familiarity with trading on Chinese exchanges and a thorough understanding of regional market dynamics.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with global teams, contributing to the execution of the broader commercial strategy.
  • Fluency in Mandarin is required for effective communication with local stakeholders.
  • Experience managing or mentoring a team of traders, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
