Role Objective
We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Upper School University Counselor to join our team. This role is centered on providing comprehensive college counseling to our upper school students. Your primary objective is to guide students through the complexities of college applications and academic planning, helping them align their educational pursuits with their strengths and personal goals.
 
Work Environment
The counselor works in a school setting.
Regular interaction with students, teachers, parents,other school staff, eternal partners
The role may require flexibility in working hours, including some evenings or weekends for events like parent meetings or college fairs.
 
Responsibilities
 
-College Counselling
  • Provide top-quality and professional college placement services to all members of the student body
  • Implement a university advising program to help upper school students in planning and mapping out academic and career plans depending on their strengths and personal goals.
  • Work closely with parents and guardians of all students on caseload, including workshops and meetings for families.
  • Counsel, support and provide assistance to students as they engage in the college research process and completing college applications
  • Write Guidance School Report/Reccomendations for University
  • Advise middle and high school students in educational topics such as goal-setting, relationships, career exploration, course selection, ongoing study habits, community involvement and life skills.
  • Develop and maintain a robust network of college admission professionals through regular communication, counselor visits and high school virtual and on-site visits from colleges and universities
  • Organize career and university fairs, career workshops and programs throughout the year
  • Use BridgeU, University Guidance and Counseling Platform, and Millie with students
  • Assist in updating and revising a competitive High School profile to send to colleges
  • Assist Principal in initiatives to create cross curricular and curricular connections to college/university/careers and increase curricular opportunities to upper school students.
  • Provide support for students transitioning from high school to college, focusing on both academic and emotional readiness.
 
-Professional Development and Collaboration:
  • Stay updated with the latest trends in university counseling and socio-emotional learning.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, such as workshops and conferences.
  • Collaborate with school administrators and other educators to develop policies and practices that support student success.

Role Requirements and Qualification
  • Fluency in written English
  • Experience in university counseling, teaching, and working with adolescents.
 
Skills:
  • Strong communication, empathy, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with an ESL student population and the school community.
  • Excellent references available upon request.
