Job Title: Head of Talent Management

Location: China

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Talent Management to lead enterprise talent practices across China. This role owns the design and execution of talent programmes that attract, develop, and retain high-performing talent, while supporting business growth and organizational effectiveness.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership in talent management, organisational development, performance management, leadership development, and succession planning, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build scalable processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Talent Strategy & Operating Model
    • Lead the development and implementation of the China talent management strategy, aligned to business priorities.
    • Define the talent operating model, processes, and governance to ensure consistent execution across functions.
  • Leadership & Talent Development
    • Design and oversee leadership development initiatives (e.g., management programmes, coaching, mentoring, talent academies).
    • Strengthen technical/professional development pathways and career frameworks.
  • Performance Management & Talent Reviews
    • Own and continuously improve performance management cycles and talent review processes.
    • Ensure clear criteria, calibration, and actionable development plans following talent reviews.
  • Succession Planning & Workforce Planning Support
    • Develop robust succession planning frameworks for key roles and critical functions.
    • Partner with HR and business leaders to support workforce planning and capability building.
  • Talent Acquisition Enablement (as applicable)
    • Partner with recruiting/HR teams to align talent pipeline strategies with talent needs.
    • Support employer branding and candidate experience improvements through talent insights.
  • Learning, Culture & Change Enablement
    • Drive initiatives that reinforce learning culture and employee engagement.
    • Support organizational change by embedding talent-related practices into transformation programmes.
  • Analytics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
    • Use HR analytics to track key talent indicators and programme effectiveness.
    • Identify gaps and implement continuous improvements to talent programmes.
  • Stakeholder Leadership
    • Build trusted relationships with senior leaders and HR partners across China and broader regions.
    • Influence stakeholders to drive adoption of talent programmes and decisions.

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    Typically 10+ years of HR/talent management experience, with senior leadership ownership of talent programmes.

  • Talent Management Expertise:
    Demonstrated experience leading performance management, leadership development, talent reviews, and succession planning.

  • Organisation Development:
    Strong understanding of organisational effectiveness, competency frameworks, and career/leadership models.

  • Influence in a Matrix / Complex Environment:
    Ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage priorities across multiple functions.

  • People Leadership:
    Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop talent management teams and internal partners.

  • Communication:
    Strong communication skills in English; fluency in Mandarin is strongly preferred given local stakeholders.

  • Analytical Mindset:
    Ability to measure impact, build reporting dashboards, and use data to drive decisions.
